Anticip-a-a-tion is Making Me Nuts - COVID Vaccine Reality

They mean well.  Every single one of them means so well.  They want me to be safe.  They want me back in the world.  They want to get together.  They want a hug, maybe as badly as I want one.

Call after call comes in, multiple times a day, with each person spouting ‘new’ ideas about how I should be getting or demanding a vaccine. It is excruciatingly maddening

Do they not know how much I want out of this box?

Do not they not think I have registered every single possible place I can?

Do they not appreciate I have explored every avenue that might be open to me?

Do they not understand that I am thrilled for those who have been vaccinated?

But for those of us who are high risk, who have not yet come up on the list, each day is a frustrating waiting game.

It’s another day of life with the struggle to find real ‘life’ in it.

I can see the glimmer of hope, but I can’t quite catch it yet.  It’s there, tantalizingly close, but still out of reach.

So, how do you raise the topic with someone like me? Ask if they’re open to the discussion. Do so gently, compassionately. Assume they have thought of your idea, even if you’d like to “suggest” it “just in case” they have not. If you really want to know, pose questions, not statements, let alone demands. And when the person says they’re done discussing this topic – stop. Please.

There are millions of us in this place and we’re doing the best we can in an impossible situation.

Onward!
